We are experienced in both low dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy using a pre-plan technique and high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy. Over 1000 patients treated since 2000
2008 - LDR seed implants 147
2008 - HDR single fraction treatments 31
Projected for 2009 - LDR seed implants 130
Projected for 2009 - HDR single fraction treatments 60
All brachytherapy patients are entered onto an in-house database recording post implant dosimetry, toxicity and PSA outcome. In addition all LDR brachytherapy patients are entered onto a large UK multi-institutional database which collects data from Leeds, Mount Vernon and Christie (>2000 patients registered)
The multi-institutional database which is managed at Christie permits easy comparison of outcome between the centres.
The Christie have introduced a single fraction HDR boost treatment into the UK offering greater convenience to the patient.
