David Bottomley qualified in medicine at Westminster Hospital medical school in 1985. He did his general medical training in and around London and gained MRCP UK in 1988, at which stage he began training in oncology obtaining FRCR in 1992. After clinical oncology posts in Mount Vernon, Westminster and Charing Cross Hospitals, he became a senior registrar at Cookridge Hospital, Leeds in 1994 and obtained a consultancy in 1996.
David's main interests are in prostate cancer and especially the treatment of early prostate cancer. Since 1996 he has performed prostate brachytherapy and his centre is the longest-established prostate brachytherapy centre in the UK. The team there has recently presented ten-year outcomes for patients undergoing prostate brachytherapy at the centre. As well as having a busy clinical workload, David is actively involved in clinical research and teaching and has co-written many published papers especially on prostate brachytherapy.
